Cranberry guide updates, frost protection and insect monitoring...

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Hi Folks,

Just to let you know an even MORE updated version of the Cranberry Pest Management Guide has been uploaded to our website!  Movento has received full registration for Cranberry Tipworm since we first published it and we discovered that the change to the Callisto label allowing 2 applications per year was not captured in the guide so that has been fixed!

Please let us know if you have started your sweep net sampling?  I've been hearing reports of little insect activity (mostly spanworms), but if you are finding blackheaded fireworm or anything else, please let us know!  If you have not yet ordered your pheromone monitoring traps for this season, now's the time to do so!  Solida is a great Canadian company with pretty quick service - check out their website for the types of traps and pheromones they offer for cranberry production.

That cold weather on the weekend had me thinking about frost protection and what growth stage we are at in the field... The last round of Frost Tolerance photos on the U Mass Cranberry Station website can be found here.  Please be sure to check for Frost Tolerance in your beds and take action for frost protection where needed.
